Studying Abroad: A Gateway to Exploring the World!
As college freshmen settle into their new abodes, and seniors dive into their college apps, it seems the last thing on people’s minds would be moving—yet again—to a new place. But, it’s never too late to explore your options! Have you always loved traveling? Are you thrilled by the prospect of immersing yourself in a new, different culture? Studying abroad may be up your alley.
According to Nafsa.org, “the number of U.S. students studying abroad for credit during the 2021-22 academic year rebounded to more than half of pre-pandemic levels, with 188,753 students studying abroad.” Not only is it perfect for those who love to travel, it also compliments those who live to learn.
Okay, so you want to study abroad, what now? Many colleges and universities offer abroad programs in collaboration with overseas schools. The procedures to apply vary from school to school, so it is up to you to research what is offered and how to enroll! However, there is a general consensus that you maintain good academic standing to apply for these programs—-so continue to work hard and build your resumes!
Even if you are in high school, it is never too late to start thinking about studying abroad as you progress on your academic journey. We at 4SED strongly recommend that you should start looking at available opportunities early, during the summer before or during freshman year—as, most likely, you have to apply for programs at least 6 months in advance and it is important to be prepared to understand which requirements can be fulfilled abroad. Although it is an exciting opportunity, without proper preparation, it may become difficult to fit study abroad into your later years.
Keep these tips in mind as you consider studying abroad; after all, a few years from now, you may find yourself among the cherry trees of Japan.
