What to do the summer after high school

During the summer year after my senior year, I remember thinking: what next? It felt so freeing because I didn’t have any summer school work that I had to do. There was no school work that I had to worry about and I didn’t know what to do with my summer. I, of course, knew that I was going to go on a vacation. However even after setting aside enough time to vacation and meet up with friends, I still had a lot of time over my summer. Here are some ideas on how you can be productive over your summer.

  1. Apply for a summer program/job related to your major.

  2. Explore your interest by interviewing friends, family, or reach out to your infinite resources on the internet.

  3. Email professors from your college and ask them anything that interests you. Some things that I asked about were research opportunities, tips for first entering college, and recommended tools for my major.

This might be too early to be thinking about what to do during summer, but if you’re considering a summer program related to your major you should start looking now. It’s also ok to take a break over the summer though. You’ve gone through many years of high school. Take time for yourself. Simply, relax.
