There's more to the financial aid process: The CSS Profile!

Finished with your FAFSA and think you’re done? That may be true, but that might not be the case if you’re applying to private schools.

This video by Khan Academy gives an insight into the CSS Profile, which is an additional step toward the financial aid process if your school requires it. If you’re only applying to Cal States or UCs, you don’t need to fill it out, but if you’re applying to private schools, then make sure to have this on your checklist, as you won’t get your financial aid award if you don’t.

Unlike the FAFSA which looks at how much federal aid you need, the CSS profile looks at how much non-federal aid you need, which is an important aspect of getting NEED-BASED aid and grants from these private institutions. Unlike the FAFSA which is a free application, the CSS Profile isn’t free, but one can qualify for a fee waiver. Nevertheless, it’s worth it because you could higher your chances for more aid. The video starts to talk more about the basics of the CSS Profile in clip, 6:05.

While you’re working on your college applications, don’t forget to also work on your financial aid! Good luck and don’t forget to ask for help from your college counselor if you have any questions!
