Happy Nursing Day! 4S Student Spotlight: Yamila Marcu
Happy Nursing Day! Today we will be spotlighting one of our former students, Yamila Marcu! She is currently in an undergraduate nursing program at Azusa Pacific University in the Class of 2025.
What got you interested in nursing?
I became interested in nursing because I grew up with my mother working as a nurse. I love to socialize and interact with people, and I simply could not imagine doing anything else. All I would like to do is help people!
How did the 4S Education Foundation impact your journey to nursing?
The 4S Foundation really helped me narrow down my options and actually helped me research all the best programs. It made the long journey a lot easier and less stressful.
What are your long term goals in nursing?
I would love to work in nursing up until I retire. My main interest right now is the oncology unit where I can work closely with the patients and their families. Hopefully, after my undergrad, I’ll go back to school to get my Masters to become a Nurse Practitioner.
What do you love most about nursing?
I love the close connection nurses form with their patients. Nurses work closely with their patients every day, creating a real relationship that really helps the patient’s recovery.
Do you have any advice to nursing school applicants?
I would advise applicants to really review their options, whether they want to go into a direct-entry program (I would really recommend), or one where they would have to reapply to nursing school after two years.
Nursing school is really difficult and very time consuming compared to some majors, but I really feel it is the most rewarding. Even after my first year of college, I feel as though I’ve learned more than in my 4 years of high school.
