4S Mentor Spotlight: Rachel Kim, UCLA

For today’s mentor spotlight, we’re featuring 4S Mentor, Rachel Kim! Currently a junior at UCLA, Rachel is majoring in Design and Media Arts with a minor in Labor Studies.

Meet Rachel!

Q: How did you get involved with the 4S Education Foundation?

A: I knew Dr. Chase in high school, and he generously helped me review my college application essays even when I wasn’t one of his students. A few years later when I was attending UCLA, he reached out to me about being involved with the 4S Education Foundation as a mentor.

Q: What made you want to join 4S as a mentor?

A: As a first-generation college student who didn’t have many resources throughout the college application process, I wanted to pay forward the guidance I received from Dr. Chase to my students and the other 4S mentees.

Q: How do you help your students as a mentor?

A: I give feedback to students on their essays, guide them through any confusing college-related obstacles, and provide free resources that might be useful. I also hope to be a safe and welcoming mentor that my students can look to if they need advice on anything at all, not just about college applications!
