Amanda DoAmaral: Founder of Fiveable Shares Insight for HS Seniors
Entering your last year in high school may seem intimidating—applying to college, finding a major/career, graduation looming in the corner……….
But as Amanda DoAmaral, founder of Fiveable, puts it beautifully:
“Senior year is a beautiful struggle. The final year of high school is filled with joy and celebrations you will recall and laugh about with your classmates for the rest of your lives, but also comes with the realization you are leaving the positive and supportive school communities you’ve recently become the leaders of.”
Essentially, it’s completely normal to feel a wide range of emotions, of which include fear & uncertainty but also excitement and nostalgia! Personally, the very first to very last day of high school felt bittersweet for me, especially on the days I submitted college applications & attended senior year events with friends. Writing numerous drafts of personal statements was challenging for me, but special moments such as planning for senior rallies balanced out the stress. In early May, I began to ** genuinely ** realize that pretty soon, most of my classmates would move to different cities thousands of miles away from one another. It was bittersweet to know that we would no longer see one another as often (and laugh at the same inside jokes or complain about the never-ending flights of stairs), but I was also so excited to see what everyone would accomplish in the future! Senior year truly flew by, and before we knew it we were graduating.
To the Class of 2023: although it’s months away, remind yourself to absorb the memories around you during the final weeks & days of high school. It goes by very quickly, and after graduating, you’re off to a new adventure and no longer a high school student!
