4S Student Spotlight: Earl, Downtown Magnet High School

The 4S Education Foundation’s mission is to guide students during those critical years before college to prepare for college applications, financial aid, and college career planning.

Today, we’re featuring one of our students, who shares more about the 4S Education Foundation Program and how it’s made an impact in his life.

Meet Earl!

Earl is a senior at Downtown Magnet High School, and a member of our 2022 cohort of 4S Scholars.

Q: What was the most helpful advice you received about the college application process?

A: I don’t think I would have started brainstorming and drafting my PIQs early during the summer, but I am so glad that was part of our to-do list. Getting ready and prepared, especially in the beginning, was really beneficial to me as the start of school would interfere with my free time to work on these drafts. This whole process was extensive but necessary to help me succeed without regrets. If it wasn’t with the help of my mentor, I wouldn’t be confident when clicking that “submit” button on my college applications

Q: How did you utilize the 4S Foundation to help you reach your goals?

A: From providing multiple resources and opportunities to requesting open calls with different mentors, I’ve got a ton of insights and advice on my PIQs, CommonApp Essay, and supplementals, which allowed me to dive deeper, reflecting upon my life and how I could relate it back to the prompts.

Q: What was your experience like with the mentorship aspect of the 4S Scholars Program?

A: Not only do they motivate you, but they are also there to be your friend and someone you can trust throughout this whole process. Everyone here genuinely expresses their care and support to mentees, including me. Because of this, I am truly grateful to be part of 4S.
