#FollowFriday: Milken Family Foundation and Milken Scholars

For today’s #FollowFriday, we’re featuring the Milken Family Foundation and the Milken Scholars program!

The Milken Family Foundation created the Milken Scholars program in 1989 to honor students who had distinguished scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

What do I need to apply to the Milken Scholars program?

To apply for the program, students must first be nominated, which can often be done by a counselor, teacher, or mentor! This nomination process typically opens up every October. To be considered for nomination, students must have:

  • a minimum grade point average of 3.6 (unweighted) or 90% in all academic areas

  • active participation in community service

  • a record of leadership

  • US Citizenship, Permanent Resident, or DACA recipient

  • financial or other obstacles.

What are the benefits of being a Milken Scholar?

The Milken Family Foundation prides itself of being able to financially assist students with an annual $2,000 monetary scholarship; however, they really emphasize that being a Milken Scholar allows the students access to many important career and college resources, including ongoing career counseling, assistance with career-related experiences (e.g. internships), and a graduate fund!

If you would like assistance with applying to the Milken Scholars program or would like a mentor to help with a nomination, consider applying to the 4S Education Foundation!

Our one-on-one college mentorship program is free and includes opportunities to earn scholarships and financial aid.
