Is ChatGPT good or bad?

Chat GPT is ruining our education system…or is it?

John Villasenor wrote an article, How ChatGPT Can Improve Education, Not Threaten it, and he addressed his thoughts as a professor at UCLA.

“To remain competitive throughout their careers, students need to learn how to prompt an AI writing tool to elicit worthwhile output and know how to evaluate its quality, accuracy, and originality” (Villasenor).

A lot of what Villasenor talked about in his article are valid points and don’t just go by the typical “Oh, Chat GPT is just a cheating mechanism and we need to ban student use” idea. Utilizing technology and AI through Chat GPT is a learning process and helps students develop certain skills. I also like how he mentioned that banning student use for the platform is kind of pointless because students already use it regardless and it’s up to the students to know how to incorporate AI writing with their own and fix it to one’s own unique writing style and its credibility. When students use Chat GPT and don’t try to fix or even read over the writing, they could consider those as life lessons and room for further improvement.

Chat GPT is a great platform, especially if used correctly and proficiently. Do you agree with Villasenor’s thoughts regarding Chat GPT?
