#NationalLoveIsKindDay

Was Valentine’s Day the last time you expressed your love to others? In today’s world with many unexpected and unknown mix of events, there’s always space for love and kindness. And today is a reminder of that. July 27 is National Love is Kind Day

This day celebrates the freedom of victims who suffered from domestic abuse and violence. A statistic shows that more than 1 in 3 women and more than 1 in 4 men in the United States are likely to experience some type of domestic abuse from their partner. This conflict affects much more than the victim. Wounding them physically and/or mentally also affects their family, friends, work, school, and attitude in their daily lives to their surroundings. Domestic abuse/violence is a critical issue worldwide, and the sad part is that most times, victims suffer in silence. Today on National Love is Kind Day, we celebrate those who were able to become free from their abusive relationship, support those who are still stuck in theirs, and remind ourselves that we DESERVE to be treated with love and kindness.

Here are some ways to celebrate:

  • Engage in Acts of Kindness - We don’t know what kinds of situations people are in. From our friends and families to strangers that we come across, kindness is always an action that may brighten up their day and mood. Give a compliment. Ask how their day is. Pay for the person behind you in line. Say please and thank you. Do random check-ins. Write a letter. And the list goes on.

  • Celebrate your Independence - If you were trapped in a relationship that consisted of domestic abuse/violence or know someone that was, make sure to celebrate your freedom and independence. Treat yourself out by doing things that you love. Whether that be eating out at your favorite restaurant, shopping, or hanging out with your friends and family, make sure to know that this day is to celebrate you.

  • Educate yourself - Keep yourself informed about domestic abuse/violence facts, statistics, and symptoms. By knowing more about this issue, you could save yourself and potentially others. Remember that everyone, especially you, deserves to be treated with real love in a healthy relationship. Remember that you deserve to be treated with kindness.

Show your Support - When you celebrate this day, you could use the hashtag “NationalLoveIsKindDay” on social media. You could also use your platform to share resources and infographics with helpful and eye-opening facts.
