Happy #StPatricksDay
Happy St. Patrick’s Day, 4S family!
Today, we want to highlight PBS Georgia Public Broadcasting’s article: “The Origins of St. Patrick’s Day.” It is important to know the history of this widely celebrated holiday.
Who is St. Patrick? What’s the significance of the shamrock? Or the color green?
Here are some fun facts:
The saint: St. Patrick was born in Roman, Britain with the birth name Maewyn. After being kidnapped into slavery, he was brought to Ireland, where he escaped to a French monastery and converted to Christianity. He is revered as a Christian saint for his work in abolishing the Druid pagan rites in Tara.
The shamrock: According to legend, St. Patrick used the three leaf clover (or shamrock) to explain the Trinity.
The color green: One of the reasons we were green on St. Patrick’s day is to honor Ireland. Ireland’s nickname is the Emerald Isle.
Enjoy some fun St. Patrick’s Day activities today and finally, remember to wear green!
